Fair for Families Affected by Alcohol

Fair for Families Affected by Alcohol

The first “Fair for Families” was held at Parliament on 12 June 2019.  Members of Parliament (MPs) along with about 14 UK organisations that support families affected by alcohol met to discuss how the government could: 1) secure better support for the carers or children of problematic drinkers, and 2) protect children from alcohol advertising.

A few supporters and MPs provided heartfelt personal testimonials about how alcohol affected their lives and the lives of their families.  It was wonderful to see Jonathan Ashworth MP, George Freeman MP and Liam Byrne MP once again publicly discussing their own personal experiences and their Parliamentary achievements to date on reducing alcohol harm in the UK.  Each speaker concluded their presentations by asking the audience members to contact their local politicians - ask your MPs to provide government funds and social programmes to support families affected by substance abuse.

“Fair for Families” was sponsored by the Alcohol and Families Alliance, an alliance of over 30 organisations led by Adfam and the Institute of Alcohol Studies. For more information on the Alcohol and Families Alliance, please visit their website:  https://www.alcoholandfamiliesalliance.org/
